The theme for this year's International Day of Happiness is 'Keep Calm. Stay Wise. Be Kind' and is, of course, in response to the COVID pandemic. As we face an ongoing global crisis together, this year's International Day of Happiness is a chance to find uplifting and positive ways to look after ourselves – and one another. Exploring the theme further, Action for Happiness suggests:

  • Keep calm. There are lots of things outside our control. Let’s remember to breathe and focus on what really matters so we can respond constructively.

  • Stay wise. Making wise choices helps everyone. Let’s choose positive actions that support our well-being and help others to do the same.

  • Be kind. We’re all in this together, even when we’re forced apart. Let’s stay connected and reach out to help others who may be in need.

HISTORY OF THE DAY

we all know 'Happiness' is the medicine of all the diseases for that we celebrate International happiness day on 20 March every year. The first idea of celebrating the International Day of happiness was given by UN advisor Jayme Illien in 2012. He was an orphan rescued from the street of Kolkata by Mother Teresa International mission of hope charities. He was adopted by an American woman Anna Belle Illien.

Everyone wants a happy life without any type of tension. Happiness major factors are per capita income, healthy year of life expectancy, social support, level of Trust, perceived freedom to make life easy and generosity happiness is intrinsically linked to the harmony amongst and fulfillment of goals of the society. But happiness is a big concern now time in India every year happiness Index Rank increases here peoples are not looking happy they always remain in tension and depression because of every year the cases of Mental Health illness increasing as well. India ranks 139 in World Happiness Report, Pak happier at 105:

  • 2016 - 118 RANK

  • 2017 - 112 RANK

  • 2018 - 133 RANK

  • 2019 - 140 RANK

  • 2020 - 144 RANK

  • 2021 - 139 RANK

Overall, the index showed little change in happiness levels compared to last years' report, which was based on information from before the Covid-19 pandemic.

The United States ranks at 19th place for happiness, despite being one of the richest countries in the world. It proves that 'Material wealth can provide comfort but not necessarily happiness'. People of India remain in tension because of unemployment. The pew research of the US shows that an estimated 3.5 % formal and employment rate,18.6 million Indians were jobless and the other 393.7 million work in poor quality jobs and vulnerable to displacement. The unemployment rate 2020-2021 is 18.9 . Indian adults feel a lack of jobs and growing inflammation is the biggest concern for the Nation. People faced problems in getting basic facilities because our government after that 73 years of Independence not able to provide basic facilities to all the people like better education, health, house, nutritious food, clean water, and good atmosphere. when the 21st-century common man does not receive this basic facility and the covid-19 pandemic has exacerbated this problem.

some other reasons

The first one is the distribution of the money and land. In India, one percent of the population holds 73% of the wealth while 670 million citizens compromising the country's poorest half. The elite class that is 1% govern the whole country. we need to cop up with this critical issue of happiness so that everyone in this country feels happy, safe, secure, corruption-free, everyone gets an education, women's feels safe, youth get jobs, house, good atmosphere, and this is possible only when our government will play their roles truly and provide all the basic facilities to the people of the nation and our policymakers also take a good decision for the development and happiness of the society. People who are happy tend to live longer and have fewer health problems. Indeed, happier people are less likely to have high blood pressure and heart issues. One thing remains clear – we still have a lot to learn about this area of study and the myriad benefits of a life well-lived. Hopefully the International Day of Happiness can raise even more awareness of this and help us all to be happy in 2021 and beyond.
